Promoting genetic improvement in dairy herds in the Ji-Paraná region of Rondônia state is one of the main goals of the Leite Rondônia project, run by the Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) with support from the Zoetis Foundation.
To achieve this goal, reproductive management services are essential. Between May 6 and June 8, the IBS carried out the project's first reproductive services for farms located in the Rondônia municipalities of Mirante da Serra, Nova União, Ouro Preto do Oeste and Jardinópolis.
"During these initial services, we performed gynecological evaluations of the cows, pregnancy diagnoses and, when possible, we began synchronizing the animals for Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (AITF)," reports veterinarian Guilherme Oliveira, a consultant at the Instituto BioSistêmico who is part of the project team.
According to the veterinarian, the farms served have a family farming profile. “Some producers, in addition to producing milk, plant cocoa and raise fish in tanks to diversify the family income,” he says.
Guilherme adds that the producers are excited about the start of the Leite Rondônia project, which facilitates their access to important technologies for the development of dairy farming, such as insemination techniques, as well as the opportunity to monitor the reproductive health of the animals with ultrasound exams.
Reproductive Planning
According to the technical coordinator of livestock projects at IBS, Luiz Sartori, the focus of reproductive care is to reduce the interval between cows' births, reducing the time it takes for them to return to cyclicity.
“This work seeks to precisely plan the time that pregnant animals will give birth to ensure adequate pre-calving management. The difference lies in introducing cutting-edge genetics adapted to the reality of each producer, so that they can increase milk production without incurring additional costs,” explains Luiz Sartori.
The IBS livestock technical coordinator emphasizes that, with zootechnical control in hand, the producer increases the viability of the dairy activity as it is possible to outline strategies that will increase the productivity of the herd.
About the Leite Rondônia Project
Conceived and implemented by the Instituto BioSistêmico, the Leite Rondônia project is supported by resources from the Zoetis Foundation. The initiative seeks to promote the development of dairy farming on a total of 100 properties, with a family farming profile, in the Ji-Paraná region, in the state of Rondônia, in the Amazon Biome.
It proposes a set of activities and technological assistance resources, structured and modulated in four thematic axes aimed at improving the production process: good practices, reproductive management, nutritional management and health management.
In addition to technical visits to each property, the project provides for training meetings. These include training focused on the sustainability of dairy farming in the Amazon Biome, highlighting topics that require greater attention on the properties, reinforcing the good practice measures to be implemented during the project.
The project uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application assists the producer on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of your hand.
